Opening Keynote: “All Together Now”
In 1997 the Furniture Society held its first conference, in Purchase, New York. One of the attendees was Glenn Adamson, then a young graduate student. The following year, in San Francisco, he gave his first public lecture at the Furniture Society’s conference in San Francisco. His first published writing was in the Society’s journal, Furniture Studio. Now, two decades later, he looks back on these moments and reflects on the influence they have had on his subsequent career as a curator and historian. One insight: furniture, the art of joinery, is a great metaphor for what holds us together.
